Driving under the influence is a serious issue that affects the lives of many people. A DUI is serious. Amigo Insurance explains how a DUI can lead to a suspended or lost driver’s license. The severity of a driver’s punishment usually depends on the amount of DUIs a driver has. If a driver has gotten their first DUI, they will usually lose their driver’s license between a period of six months to a whole year. A driver who has had multiple DUIs can lose their license forever. Other factors, such as where a driver was stopped, can also influence a driver’s punishment.

In some cases, the legal punishment for receiving a DUI can vary depending on each state. For example, some states require that drunk drivers experience some jail time. Other states impound a drunk driver’s vehicle for six months.
